In 2025 June Elon Musk put forth a radical concept for Grok 3.5. This is the next generation of AI. He is to rework what we as a species have put out there in terms of knowledge. He sees it is full of what he terms as “garbage” in present AI data sets. At X, he announced that at xAI they will use Grok’s in-depth analysis to clean up, improve and re-structure this data. They plan this before we see the model re-trained.
Critics, like AI expert Gary Marcus, are quick to sound the alarm. They report that Musk’s move is that which blends AI ambition with narrative control. Also of note is his open request for “divisive facts” from users on X.
Elon Musk Grok AI: Replacing Garbage With Reason
According to Musk, Grok 3.5 is set to eliminate misinformation and fill in knowledge gaps. This will be done by way of first principles. He also reports these are a step up from previous models. Out of the launch of Grok 3, which saw this year into the world with 200,000 GPUs, there was a technical giant step. Yet, the new 3.5 version is a technical jump. Also, Musk puts forward that Grok AI may become the most accurate knowledge model.
Experts report that which Grok is doing is out of line with what we see in present AI. Present AI uses large varied data sets that are curated, not created. Also, it is put forth that what Musk does in terms of subjective curation of the data may turn AI into a political instrument.
Clashes With Ethical Boundaries
Musk’s foray into “woke AI” plays out here. Since the launch of xAI, he has been against what he perceives to be a liberal lean in large tech models. What did he do? He developed Grok AI to say what others won’t.
However in the case of the political incorrectness plans instead things blow up in our face. X users flooded Grok with conspiracy theories which included some on Holocaust denial and climate change. The result? Damaged reputation and more academic push back.
Platform Power: X And AI Unite
In March 2025, Musk put through an $80 billion merger of xAI and X Corp. This saw Grok trained on live platform data. Although it provides state of the art information, the model is made available to put into play what is put forth in the wild. Thus, it is exposed to large amounts of misinformation.
The Elon Musk Grok AI project is at a junction between innovation and ethical disaster. Critics put forth that a collaborative approach is what is needed. But Musk is going it alone with Grok which he has made his primary focus.
