JPMorgan Loan Offer Cracks Open Bitcoin Vault

JPMorgan Chase is to go big in the field of crypto lending. Soon, JPMorgan will roll out a loan offer service which will see elite customers take out loans. These loans are secured against Bitcoin or Ethereum, as at present people do with homes or stocks.

This report was first out by The Financial Times on July 22, 2025. This change from the bank’s present policy which only has that they borrow against crypto ETFS (exchange-traded funds). Should regulators give the go ahead the new service may roll out as early as 2026.

This at present isn’t a service for the average crypto user. To put this together for institutional investors and very wealthy individuals which to date have large sums of crypto and want to access cash  we didn’t tie them to sell off their assets in their JPMorgan loan offer. Instead they may borrow against their held assets.

JPMorgan will use services of crypto custodians like Coinbase and Anchorage for the secure holding of clients’ Bitcoin and Ethereum. Thus the bank won’t have to deal with digital assets directly but will still be able to provide related services.

JPMorgan Loan Offer Reflects Jamie Dimon’s Changing Tune On Crypto

This is a surprise for many that JPMorgan’s CEO Jamie Dimon was a former Bitcoin critic in large part. He at one time called it a “fraud” which he compared to the Dutch tulip mania. Also in 2024 he went as far as to term it a “pet rock” which also plays into crime.

But times and opinions change. In May 2025, Dimon took a softer stance, saying: “I defend your right to buy bitcoin”. This change in trend indicates a large scale demand from clients for crypto services. Big banks can no longer ignore this demand, and it led to the latest JPMorgan loan offer.

Now JPMorgan loans are offered as a component of a larger plan to meet client demand at the same time we preserve safety. The bank will be applying what they are known for, risk management strategies like loan-to-value ratios and margin calls  to avoid the problems that brought down previously failed crypto lending networks as we had with Celsius and BlockFi in 2022.

New U.S. Crypto Laws Give JPMorgan A Green Light

At the time of this news’ release President Trump had signed the GENIUS Act. This put forward clearer rules for banks in terms of their work with stable coins and digital assets. This law also brought into resolution a lot of issues which in the past caused traditional banks to stay away. Now, it will enable more JPMorgan loan offers.

Still, however, JPMorgan has to move with care. In 2026, global banking rules will roll out. These rules will make it that banks have to hold large amounts of capital against crypto loans. Crypto currencies such as Bitcoin are very volatile and may see large price changes in a short couple of hours. To stay protected, the bank will roll out the program in stages. It will only go into those markets where the clients are fully aware of the risks.

If successful with this JPMorgan loan offer, may see other large banks jump on board and introduce their own crypto backed lending. It is also possible for more stability in the crypto space as regulated companies come into play with better risk management.
